SPEEDCORNER.NET – Actually it has been since last November Johan Zarco rumored to be moving to KTM, but there is no definite clarity. But now after Austin’s race rumors Zarco has written a contract with KTM.
As reported by Speedweek.com, the French origin racer has signed a contract with KTM in Austin.
Zarco has claimed four podiums and three pole positions in a single season in premier class with Yamaha Tech3. Previously Zarco also had discussions with Honda and Suzuki, but Suzuki rejected it in 2017 for Alex Rins.
It is estimated Zarco will co-exist with Pol Espargaro to replace Bradley Smith. Joining KTM Zarco is like betting considering KTM is a new team in the premier class, although the progress is pretty good.
“I can’t sayanything about our MotoGP factory team in the future, unfortunately you have to speculate,” said Director of Motorsport KTM Pit Beirer told Speedweek about Zarco rumors.
“all I know is that Honda is also very interested in Zarco, KTM, of course, [CEO] Stefan Pierer has already told you once. but it’s no secret that Johann Zarco is also interested in us …”
If that’s true, the deal will be announced in Jerez, the beginning of the European season.
Tech3 team itself starts next season will use the KTM engine after the decision to leave Yamaha.
Previously the Yamaha satellite team had never won the race since using a four-stroke engine, but in Valencia last year Zarco was just 0.337 adrift of the leading rider, and only 0.251 lost to Cal Crutchlow in Argentina this season.
